Why we exist

Rural Development Challenges in Chin State

CARD was formed in response to challenges facing remote communities relying on prolonged shifting cultivation and slash-and-burn farming.

  • Isolation of remote rural communities
  • Food insecurity and low agricultural productivity
  • Limited technical agricultural knowledge
  • Deforestation and environmental degradation from slash-and-burn farming
  • Low household income and few livelihood options
  • Vulnerability to disasters and conflict-related displacement
